With the term of the first Expert Panel concluding at the end of this year, the Integrity Council is seeking recognised experts from the carbon market space to inform the next phase of our work.

Our independent Expert Panel is a renumerated group of individual experts who provide technical expertise to the Integrity Council.

The current term of the Expert Panel expires in December 2024, with current members having served a complete term of three years. We are now seeking experts to join the Expert Panel for a term of up to three years, beginning in 2025. While we welcome new voices to bring fresh perspectives, we also encourage our current Expert Panel members to continue their invaluable contributions and remain a key part of the team moving forward.

The Expert Panel is a group of technical experts with industry and sectoral knowledge, responsible for making recommendations for approval by the Integrity Councilā€™s Board of Directors.

Members bring expertise from a wide range of technical and geographical backgrounds. The current panel includes specialists with direct and proven experience in carbon market accounting and methodologies, sustainable development measurement of carbon projects, and/or social and environmental safeguards, including Indigenous Peoples and local communitiesā€™ rights.

This breadth of experience from the Expert Panel aims to ensure a comprehensive approach to evaluating carbon crediting methodologies and programs. The panel is appointed by the Governing Board of the Integrity Council or one of its committees.

The Expert Panel has been involved in the development of the Core Carbon Principles (launched in March 2023), and the Assessment Framework (July 2023), as well as the ongoing assessments of carbon crediting programs and methodologies eligible for the CCP label.

Pedro Martins Barata, current Expert Panel Co-Chair: ā€œWe are deeply grateful for the tireless work of our outgoing Expert Panel members who have played such a critical role in the evolution of the voluntary carbon market. Their expertise, insights and collaborative work have laid the foundation for a stronger, higher integrity market and the impact of this work will be felt for many years to come.ā€

Daniel Ortega Pacheco, current Expert Panel Co-Chair: ā€œAs we open the doors to a new generation of experts – especially from the Global South – we also aim to retain the invaluable members of our current Expert Panel, whose dedication and expertise have been instrumental in shaping the integrity of the carbon markets. Their continued involvement, alongside fresh perspectives, will help us strengthen the Core Carbon Principles and raise the standards across the market. Together, we can drive even greater impact in addressing global sustainability challenges.ā€

The Integrity Council is recruiting new members to serve on our Expert Panel from 2025 ā€“2028. We are looking for professionals from across the carbon market landscape.

Experts with experience in the following areas are invited to apply:

  • Carbon accounting and carbon project/jurisdictional/methodological development, from across the breadth of methodological approaches and/or
  • Measurement methods and tools to manage sustainable development aspects of carbon projects and/or
  • Implementation of and evaluation of social and environmental safeguards systems including benefit sharing arrangements at programmatic and project level.

We are committed to selecting a diverse mix of experts from across geographical regions and with different skills and expertise. We are encouraging people from the Global South to apply.

It is highly important to us that the Expert Panel maintains a balance of continuity and fresh insights, and as such, we encourage existing members of the Expert Panel to reapply and continue shaping the future of carbon markets alongside new experts.

By retaining the expertise of our current members and welcoming new professionals, we aim to foster a collaborative environment that strengthens the integrity of the carbon market and sets new benchmarks for sustainability.
