Biography

Javier Castro is an international sustainability, validation and verification expert with over 20 years of experience in greenhouse gas (GHG) accounting, carbon markets and certification standards. As General Manager of the International Association of Validation and Verification Bodies (IAVVB), he works to improve the integrity and effectiveness of validation and verification processes worldwide. He also supports the World Bank-led DMRV Working Group within the Climate Market Initiative (CMI).

Previously, he held senior positions at TÜV SÜD and Sustain Cert, contributing to the development of sustainability standards and certification frameworks. Javier is actively involved in key international initiatives including standardisation, carbon market oversight and independent sustainability governance to ensure robust and transparent mechanisms for climate action and environmental integrity.
