The Indigenous Peoples and Local Communities Voluntary Carbon Market (VCM) Engagement Forum

A forum built for and led by Indigenous Peoples and local communities (IPs and LCs).

What is the Indigenous Peoples and local communities Voluntary Carbon Market (VCM)
Engagement Forum?

The IPs and LCs VCM Engagement Forum is the principal output from a series of consultations that the Integrity Council led with the guidance of IP and LC representatives worldwide.

The Integrity Council, in partnership with the Voluntary Carbon Markets Integrity Initiative (VCMI) received a clear signal of the need for such a forum to help elevate the voices of IPs and LCs within the VCM and to provide a space for closer coordination and targeted capacity building. The Forum aims to strengthen the role of IPs and LCs as both beneficiaries and shareholders in a high-integrity VCM.

Through an active and centralised Forum, IPs and LCs can support and empower their own communities and others, to ensure the VCM supports the delivery of benefits such as income opportunities and biodiversity protection.

Nominations for the Forum Governing Board are now closed. You can read more about the Forum in the Concept Note and outline Terms of Reference.
