Join our Governing Board as an Independent member
The Integrity Council is seeking applications from experienced professionals with expertise in carbon markets, carbon finance and/or sustainable development and financial markets to join our Governing Board as Independent members. Applications are particularly encouraged from candidates from Asia, Africa and Latin America.
The Integrity Council is an independent, non-profit governance body. We set and enforce the independent global integrity threshold for the carbon market, drawing on the best available science and world-renowned expertise. Our 10 Core Carbon Principles (CCPs) and rigorous Assessment Framework aim to enable a high-integrity carbon market to mobilise finance at scale for urgent greenhouse gas emission reductions and removals, while supporting the Sustainable Development Goals and the objectives of the Paris Agreement.
The role
The Governing Board is responsible for strategic decision-making, including decisions relating to the CCPs and Assessment Framework, and oversees the application of the Integrity Council’s Assessment Framework.
Up to 16 seats on the Governing Board are reserved for Independent members acting in the global interest.
All Governing Board members are expected to:
- attend and fully participate in Governing Board meetings, which take place at least four times a year, with additional meetings as required
- serve in their individual capacity, rather than on behalf of any organisation or community
- comply with the Integrity Council’s Code of Conduct, Conflicts of Interest Policy and other Integrity Council policies
- protect confidential, proprietary or market-sensitive information they receive through their role.
Members may also be asked to participate in Governing Board committees or working groups, and to represent the Integrity Council at conferences, events and media engagements.
Who we are looking for
Candidates should:
- not currently be, or have been within the previous two years, employed by or in a material pecuniary relationship with an active, for-profit carbon market entity that generates or derives revenue from carbon markets
- have deep knowledge of global carbon markets, carbon finance and/or sustainable development and financial markets
- support the mission and mandate of the Integrity Council and the Core Carbon Principles
- have experience as a Board member in comparable organisations
- have the ability and willingness to dedicate sufficient time to their duties as a Governing Board member.
This is a remunerated position, with fees agreed according to the time commitment. Where an applicant’s employer is willing to provide their expertise on an in-kind basis, the Integrity Council will consider this in accordance with its policies, including the need to avoid conflicts of interest.
How to apply
Download and complete the Independent member application form, then send the completed form and your CV to ops@icvcm.org.
The deadline for applications is 17:00 BST on 4 December 2026.
