Meet the team


Joaquim Levy, a member of the management team of Banco Safra in Sâo Paulo, is a former Minister of Finance of Brazil and president of the Brazilian Development Bank (BNDES), who has held several positions at multilateral financial institutions.  Levy has been Managing Director and World Bank Group Chief Financial Officer (WBG) and Executive Vice President for Finance and Administration of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB).

While at the WBG, Dr. Levy was cochair of the advisory board of the Global Infrastructure Initiative (GIF) and represented the bank at the Financial Stability Board of the G20, where he promoted the international dialogue to facilitate the participation of the private sector in the financing of sustainable infrastructure in developing countries.  Levy has also been CEO of the US$100 billion AUM Bradesco Asset Management (2010-14), when he implemented the principles for responsible investment and mainstreamed sustainability methodologies.

A trained economist with a PhD from the University of Chicago, Levy worked for several years at the European Department of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and was a Visiting Economist at the European Central Bank.  He has been an Academic Fellow at Stanford University’s Steyer-Taylor Center for Energy Policy and Finance and is a member of the WRI Global Board of Directors.
