Biography

Tuntiak Katan, former General Coordinator of the Global Alliance of Territorial Communities, formed by five international indigenous organizations with tropical forests around the world. Creator and promoter of the SHANDIA Mechanism – direct access to climate financing for IPLCs. He was also a member of the advisory board for The Tenure Facility – TF and Equitable Origin-EO. He is native to the Ecuadorian Amazon and a member of the Shuar People. He completed a Technology degree in Conservation Biology and Natural Resource Management at the Missouri Botanical Garden. He studied Applied Ecology and Environmental Management at the Universidad San Francisco de Quito. He is the founder of the Ikiam Foundation and is currently working with the Foundation in the management of the Tarimiat Ecological Reserve and Indigenous Economy and Finance programs.
