Biography

Michele L. Francis, Ph.D., is a soil carbon and greenhouse gas accounting expert with experience spanning academia, environmental standards, and carbon market methodologies.

Her work focuses on regenerative agriculture, enhanced rock weathering, soil carbon accounting, and the development of technical standards and analytical protocols for laboratory and certification programs. She has worked with a range of carbon market standards and verification frameworks across soil carbon and carbon dioxide removal initiatives, including Verra, ISOMETRIC, ORMEX, and Puro.earth, and previously served as a Technical Expert Reviewer for the UNFCCC.

Her research on carbon storage in natural systems has received international attention for its implications for long-term carbon sequestration. She has lived and worked across Africa, Europe, and North America, bringing a Global South perspective and cross-regional experience to scientific assessment and high-integrity carbon market development.
